Meg McCarthy Biography

Meg McCarthy is the Operations and Technology Executive Vice President. Clinical innovation, technology, and service operations are her responsibilities. Meg is also in charge of Aetna, Inc.'s process and performance improvement, procurement, and real estate services. Ms. McCarthy worked at Aetna as Vice President and Head of Business Solutions Delivery, where she oversaw all IT project management, development, quality engineering, and IT-related business-process reengineering tasks required to conceive, develop, and deliver end-to-end business solutions. She was also the CIO of Aetna. Ms. McCarthy was Senior Vice President of Information Technology at CIGNA Healthcare in Bloomfield, CT, before joining Aetna in 2003. She has 30 years of expertise in information systems and health care operations, with a focus on the hospital, insurance, and managed care business and systems. Cost management, mergers, productivity management, care management, clinical work redesign, financial management, and information system design and implementation are among her operations and consulting experiences. Ms. McCarthy has also held CIO roles at Catholic Health Initiatives in Denver, CO, one of the country's biggest Catholic systems, and Franciscan Health System in Philadelphia, PA. She worked as a Senior Manager at Andersen Consulting (Accenture) and as a consulting partner at Ernst & Young in the IT and Performance Improvement practice. Ms. McCarthy has been named to the "Elite 8" of Insurance & Technology Magazine and the "Top 100" of Computerworld. Ms. McCarthy holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Hospital Administration from Yale University, as well as a B.A. in Philosophy from Providence College, Magna Cum Laude. Yale University Hospital Administration Alumni Association, as well as Yale University Delaware and Massachusetts Alumni Associations, are among her professional affiliations.
