Peter Attia Biography

The globe is grappling with an alarming obesity epidemic, but Peter Attia, MD says we're fighting the wrong battle. He is spearheading the effort to better understand the causes of obesity and diabetes, and in the process, he is questioning everything we've learned about the interplay of health, human performance, and medicine. Peter Attia is the founder of Attia Medical, PC, a medical practice specializing in the applied science of longevity with offices in San Diego and New York City. He co-founded and serves as the Chief Medical Officer of the Zero fasting app. Nutritional biochemistry, exercise physiology, sleep physiology, methods to enhance distress tolerance, lipidology, pharmacology, and four-system endocrinology are all used by Attia Medical to extend longevity (delay the start of chronic illness) while concurrently increasing healthspan (quality of life). Attia completed his general surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he received numerous important honors, including a resident of the year and author of a thorough study of general surgery. He also spent the next two years at the National Cancer Institute as a surgical oncology fellow, where his research focused on immune-based melanoma treatments. Since then, he's been taught by some of the most accomplished and forward-thinking lipidologists, endocrinologists, gynecologists, sleep physiologists, and longevity scientists in the US and Canada. Attia also produces The Peter Attia Drive Podcast, in which he conducts in-depth conversations with leading thinkers in a variety of areas, particularly medical, in order to raise awareness about longevity and health-span improvements. He graduated from Stanford University with an M.D. and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and applied mathematics. He is a licensed attorney in the states of California and New York.
