Steve Liesman is a senior economics correspondent for CNBC, where he covers all elements of the economy, including the Federal Reserve and important economic indicators. Liesman came to CNBC after working as a senior economics writer at The Wall Street Journal, where he covered monetary policy, international economics, academic research, and productivity. Liesman formerly worked at the Journal as an energy correspondent and the Moscow bureau chief. He was a member of the journalistic team that received a Pulitzer Prize for stories detailing the fall of the Russian financial market, and he earned an Emmy for his coverage of the financial crisis. Liesman was the founding business editor for The Moscow Times, the country's first English-language daily newspaper, and helped establish the publication's stock index, which was the country's first, before joining the Journal in 1994. Liesman has previously worked as a business reporter for the St. Petersburg Times and The Sarasota Herald-Tribune in St. Petersburg, Florida. Liesman has a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
