The Head and the Heart formed in Seattle during 2009 to create music that unites indie-folk warmth with folk-rock spirit and rich vocal harmonies which appeal to listeners across different age groups. The group started performing at Conor Byrne and other local venues before releasing their debut album on Sub Pop in 2011 which achieved Platinum status and produced the popular songs “Rivers and Roads.”

The band developed their sound through five successful studio albums starting with Let's Be Still (2013) followed by Signs of Light (2016) and Living Mirage (2019) and Every Shade of Blue (2022) and finishing with Aperture (May 9, 2025). The band returned to their DIY roots by producing Aperture which serves as their first self-produced album since their debut release.

The band used metaphors of personal and cultural journeys to express their themes of hope and collective choice and resilience through thematic exploration.

The band achieved their first AAA radio number one with “Arrow” while donating the song’s earnings to their Rivers and Roads Foundation followed by the emotional “After the Setting Sun” which combined family footage with healing narratives in its music video.

The band transitioned from their open-mic beginnings to world tours while performing their music live to audiences and they navigated internal challenges including member changes and therapy sessions to maintain creative unity during Living Mirage production.
