Mashama Bailey is an American chef and in 2019 she was awarded a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southeast. Bailey opened the restaurant The Grey with venture capitalist John O. Morisano. The restaurant was nominated for the 2015 James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant. Later in 2019 Morisano and Bailey opened The Grey Market in Savannah.
The restaurant serves as a cross between Southern lunch counters and New York City bodegas. Bailey previously worked at the Oak Room in the Plaza Hotel David Burke & Donatella and the Aquagrill. She also worked as Gabrielle Hamilton's sous-chef. Bailey was featured in the sixth season of Netflix's Chef's Table and was a guest on Top Chef.
