Matt Brady Biography

Matt Brady, a collegiate basketball coach and the current men's basketball coach at James Madison University, was born on October 1, 1965. On March 26, 2008, he was introduced during a press conference. Brady was the head coach at Marist College for four years, finishing with a 73–50 record. In 2007, he led the Red Foxes to the MAAC regular-season championship. Marist then progressed to the NIT, where it won the first round against Oklahoma State. Marist's triumph in the NIT was the program's first-ever playoff victory. Brady took over a team at Madison that hadn't produced a winning season since Sherman Dillard's 20–9 season in 1999–2000. Dillard, like his replacement, Dean Keener, had little success in the following seasons and was left under duress. Brady took over from Keener with a seasoned core of upperclassmen and, with the help of a talented group of freshmen, put together a good first season, guiding the Dukes to an 18–13 regular-season record. Madison's first 20-win season since 1994, when Hall of Fame coach Lefty Driesell led the club to the NCAA Tournament, was made possible by the creation of a new postseason invitational, the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. In 2009–10, the team's record dropped drastically because of the injury of two major players: point guard Devon Moore, an all-rookie choice in the CAA in 2009, and forward Andrey Semenov.
