Madison Kyle Bumgarner, also known as Mad Bum, is an American professional baseball starting pitcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. In 2014, he was voted the Most Valuable Player of the World Series, which was his third as a Giant. Bumgarner was up in Hickory, North Carolina, and went to South Caldwell High School in Hudson, where he was a member of the baseball team that won the 4A State Championship in 2007. He was chosen in the first round (tenth overall) in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft out of high school by the San Francisco Giants. He earned the South Atlantic League pitching triple crown in his debut year of professional baseball, in 2008. With the Giants in 2009, he made his major league debut. He began the 2010 season in the minor leagues before being called up midway through the season and going on to become the youngest left-handed pitcher to throw eight shutout innings in a World Series as the Giants won their first World Series since 1954. In 2011, he started out with a 0–5 record but finished with a 13–13 record. With 18 wins in 2014, Bumgarner established a career-best and won his third World Series. In 2013, he posted the highest ERA of his career, 2.77, and he started for the Giants on Opening Day in 2014.
