Jan-Benedict E.M. Steenkamp investigates worldwide marketing, the efficacy of marketing tactics such as branding, private labels, and new goods, interorganizational connections, and marketing research methodologies. He teaches these subjects, as well as creativity and strategy. He co-wrote the new book, Private Label Strategy: Meeting the Store Brand Challenge, with Nirmalya Kumar of London Business School (Harvard Business School Press, 2007).

Dr. Steenkamp is the C. Knox Massey Distinguished Professor of Marketing and the chair of the marketing department at UNC Kenan-Flagler. He is also the executive director of AiMark, a worldwide center that brings together academics from across the world, two of the top-four market research companies, and brand manufacturers to investigate major marketing strategy challenges.
