Dr. Maybank is a highly skilled physician who has a track record of achievement and leadership in the fields of public health, health equality, and preventive medicine. In April 2019, Dr. Maybank became the American Medical Association's (AMA) first Chief Health Equity Officer and Vice President. Dr.
Maybank became an Associate Commissioner, then a Deputy Commissioner, in 2014, and established the Center for Health Equity. The Race to Justice Initiative was created under her leadership to reform the Health Department's culture and public health practice, as well as to incorporate health equality in all of the department's activities.
