Wanjiku “Wawa” GatheruSpeaker and Booking Agent Information

Wanjiku "Wawa" Gatheru is a Kenyan-American climate justice activist, storyteller, and Rhodes Scholar dedicated to making the climate movement inclusive and accessible. Born to Kenyan immigrants and raised in rural Connecticut, she became passionate about environmental issues as a teen. Gatheru founded Black Girl Environmentalist, an organization amplifying Black voices in the climate space. She graduated from the University of Connecticut and earned a master's at the University of Oxford as the first Rhodes Scholar from Connecticut's public university system. Her work focuses on climate justice, regenerative agriculture, and intergenerational storytelling. Through writing, speaking, and digital media, Wawa bridges gaps between science, policy, and everyday people, inspiring youth and centering equity in the fight against climate change.
