The Doobie Brothers, one of the most well-known California pop/rock bands of the 1970s, developed from a mellow post-hippie boogie band to a slick pop band with soul influences by the end of the decade. Along the way, the group amassed several gold and platinum records in the U.S.
They also had several radio songs, including China Grove and Listen to the Music Black Water. The Doobie Brothers' beginnings may be traced back to Pud, a brief-lived Californian country-rock outfit similar to Moby Grape that featured drummer John Hartman and guitarist Tom Johnston.
