Temuera Derek Morrison is a New Zealand actor best known for his role as Jake The Muss Heke in the 1994 film Once Were Warriors. He played bounty hunter Jango Fett in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones in 2002. Morrison was born in Rotorua, New Zealand's North Island, and is of Maori, Scottish, and Irish heritage. Rangi in the 1973 film Rangi's Catch was his debut part. He received his training in drama under the New Zealand Special Performing Arts Training Scheme. One of his first leading parts was in the 1988 film Never Say Die, in which he co-starred with Lisa Eilbacher. Following this, he starred as Hone Ropata in the television serial opera Shortland Street from 1992 to 1995, where he was immortalized when another character reprimanded him with the remark "You're not in Guatemala now, Dr Ropata!" In 1994, he gained notoriety for his portrayal as the violent and abusive Mori spouse Jake the Muss Heke in Once Were Warriors, a cinematic version of Alan Duff's novel of the same name. The picture was the most successful local title released in New Zealand, and it was also sold to numerous nations across the world. The portrayal earned him international recognition, and he got the New Zealand Film and TV Awards' 1994 award for best male performance in a dramatic role. He repeated the part in the sequel, What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?, for which he earned the New Zealand Film Awards' Best Actor award. He has appeared in Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997) and The Beautiful Country (1998) as a supporting actor (2004). Morrison took over as presenter of the New Zealand television discussion show The Tem Show in 2005. Morrison rose to prominence in recent years for his portrayal of bounty hunter Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002). An army of clones made using Jango's DNA is featured in the film's narrative; Morrison also contributed acting and vocal work for the troops. He returned as a number of clones in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and re-recorded the lines of Boba Fett (Jango's son) and another clone in the 2004 DVD re-releases of the original Star Wars trilogy, replacing Jason Wingreen's voice. Morrison also appeared in the 2011 superhero picture Green Lantern as Abin Sur. He has subsequently represented Jango Fett and his clones in a number of LucasArts Star Wars video games. He voiced the commando Boss in Star Wars: Republic Commando, all the troops in Star Wars: Battlefront, and the bounty hunters Jango Fett and Boba Fett as well as the clone adviser in Star Wars: Battlefront II. Morrison appeared once again in Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, a game centered on himself, as Jango, that explores Jango Fett's beginnings. In the 2006 video game Star Wars: Empire at War, he portrayed Boba Fett. He also appeared uncredited in the video games Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron and Lego Star Wars: The Video Game as Jango Fett, Boba Fett, and numerous clones. Morrison resides in New Zealand and spends his time between filming in New Zealand, Australia, and the United States.
