She devotes a lot of time to writing about constitutional and criminal procedural issues for academic and other publications, including books, magazines, online publications, and law reviews. The revised paperback edition of her most recent book, Taking Liberties: The War on Terror and the Erosion of American Democracy, which won the Roy C.

Palmer Civil Liberties Prize in 2012 from the I.I.T. Chicago-Kent College of Law, will be released in 2014. Herman has spoken about constitutional law topics on television, PBS, CSPAN, N.B.C., MSNBC, and several NPR radio programs. He has also made several appearances on the Today in New York program.

She has also written and worked with others on amicus curiae papers for the ACLU on various constitutional criminal procedural concerns. She has also taken part in Supreme Court litigation. Herman majored in philosophy at Barnard College and then earned a J.D.

from the New York University School of Law, where she served as the Note and Comment Editor of the N.Y.U. Law Review. Professor Herman worked as a staff attorney and then the associate director of Prisoners' Legal Services of New York before beginning his career as a teacher.

He also served as a pro se law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Herman has spoken frequently at academic gatherings and occasions for continuing legal education. She gives addresses at the U.S.
