Even in the metropolitan wilds of Brooklyn, Jean-Philip Grobler as St. Lucia may be the only one. St. Lucia grew up performing with the Drakensberg Boys Choir School in Johannesberg, South Africa.
When the choir wasn't touring Japan, Australia, Europe, and other places, they lived in a mountain enclave in South Africa, where they studied everything from Bach to minimalist opera. There is no greater training for a young musician. However, St Lucia's musical heart was elsewhere, and South Africa was full of other rhythms.
