Shelly Slater, a multi-Emmy award-winning journalist, joined WFAA in 2006. During the day, she reports and anchors the 4 and 6 p.m. newscasts. Shelly grew up in Plano, Texas, but now calls Dallas home. Shelly has won Emmys for her in-depth reporting, Outstanding Achievement on the Anchor Desk, and Breaking News Coverage, among others.
She's also a recipient of the Edward R. Murrow award for field anchoring. Shelly received her bachelor's degree in Summa Cum Laude from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She worked as a weekend anchor in Kansas City, Missouri, Charleston/Huntington, West Virginia, and Columbia, Missouri, before returning home. Shelly also spent time in London working for the British Broadcasting Company.
