Shane West is a performer, musician, and underground rock artist. As Eli Sammler in the ABC family program Once and Again, Landon Carter in A Walk to Remember, Darby Crash in What We Do Is Secret, Dr. Beam Barnett in the NBC clinical drama ER, and Michael Bishop in The CW spy thriller Nikita, West is well recognized for his performances. He now plays John Alden in the WGN experience/chronicled/dream program Salem. Actor West has shared the stage with Johnny Was and the underground rock group Germs. West was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Don Snaith, a pharmacy owner, and Leah Catherine (née Launey), a legal advisor. The two of his relatives were entertainers who ran their gangs of troublemakers. His father was conceived in Jamaica with British and Portuguese ancestry, while his mother is of Cajun French descent. He is the oldest of three children; his siblings are Simone, his sister, and Marli Ann, his stepsister. He was four years old when his parents divorced in 1982. He grew up listening to The Clash, The Jam, Blondie, Elvis Costello, and The Kinks since his parents were like those bands. I typically assumed I would pursue music instead of acting, he revealed. West and his sister Simone relocated to Compton, California, with their mother when they were ten years old because she was looking for a more fulfilling hobby. Later, they relocated to Norwalk, California. West traveled to Los Angeles when he was fifteen or sixteen to pursue an acting career. Before making his acting debut in 1995, he fought for a long time and lived at his chief's house. He appeared in the CBS program Picket Fences in season four scene six of Heart of Saturday Night when he played Dave Lattimore.
