Also, he is the publisher and chief editor of the quarterly literary publication The Outrider Review, which showcases authors and artists worldwide and examines topics of sexuality, gender, and identity. Ryan studied at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, earning educational psychology, English, and anthropology degrees. He also earned a master's degree in English.
