Khalil Gibran Muhammad is an American historian, professor and author specializing in African American history and racial justice.
Born on Chicago’s South Side in 1972, Muhammad studied at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a B.A. in economics. He had planned to become a lawyer before deciding to pivot toward history. This led him to complete his Ph.D. in history at Rutgers University, focusing on African American urban history. He began his academic career at Indiana University.
