Renee Montgomery won national championships with the UConn Huskies in 2009, and with the Minnesota Lynx in 2015 and 2017 as a basketball player for the Atlanta Dream of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She is the founder of a non-profit organization known as Renee Montgomery Foundation, which impacts the community through lessons learned in sports.
In order to commit more time to social justice causes, particularly the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement, she announced she would be taking the season off in 2020.
