Rebecca Adlington Biography

Rebecca Adlington is a retired British competitive swimmer. She became the first British swimmer in 48 years to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, winning the 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle events. Adlington also won bronze medals in the same events at the 2012 London Olympics. During her career, Adlington won four Olympic medals, two World Championship gold medals, and 10 European Championship medals. She held the world record in the 800-meter freestyle for six years and the British record in the 400-meter freestyle for eight years. In addition to her swimming achievements, Adlington has actively promoted sports participation and has worked with various charities, including the NSPCC and Save the Children. She was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2009 and Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2013 for her services to swimming. Adlington retired from competitive swimming in 2013 and has since worked as a television presenter and commentator for significant swimming events, including the Olympics and World Championships. She has also written several books, including "Rebecca Adlington: The Autobiography" and "Swim Stars: Discovering the Olympic Heroes of the Pool."
