Rebecca Adlington is a retired British competitive swimmer. She became the first British swimmer in 48 years to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, winning the 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle events. Adlington also won bronze medals in the same events at the 2012 London Olympics.
During her career, Adlington won four Olympic medals, two World Championship gold medals, and 10 European Championship medals. She held the world record in the 800-meter freestyle for six years and the British record in the 400-meter freestyle for eight years.
