
Rahm Emanuel is an American politician and former mayor of Chicago. Emanuel studied ballet and joined the Joffrey Ballet before attending college. He graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1981 and later received a master's degree in speech and communication from Northwestern University. Emanuel began his political career as a fundraiser for Illinois Governor Bruce Babbitt in the early 1980s.
He later served as a senior advisor to President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1998. He was credited with helping to pass the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act. In 2002, Emanuel was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Illinois's 5th congressional district.
