Rabbi Eric Yoffie is a prominent American rabbi and leader in the Reform Jewish movement. He was born in 1946 in Massachusetts and received his undergraduate degree from Brandeis University. He then studied at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City. He was ordained as a rabbi in 1974.
After serving as a congregational rabbi in Durham, North Carolina, and Rochester, New York, Yoffie became president of the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) in 1996. During his tenure, which lasted until 2012, Yoffie led the organization in advocating for social justice issues such as marriage equality, healthcare reform, and gun control.
