At the MIT Sloan School of Management, Otto Scharmer is a Senior Lecturer in Organization Studies. Scharmer is the founder and chair of ELIAS (Emerging Leaders for Innovation Across Sectors), a group dedicated to creating deep system solutions for a more sustainable society. ELIAS brings together 20 of the world's most influential institutions from the business, government, and civil society sectors. He is also a visiting professor at the Helsinki School of Economics Center for Innovation and Knowledge Research and the founding head of the Presencing Institute, a research effort focused on developing and expanding social technologies to drive innovative thinking. In North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, Scharmer has worked with multinational corporations, international organizations, and cross-sector transformation efforts. For clients such as DaimlerChrysler, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Fujitsu, he has co-designed and conducted award-winning leadership programs. He co-authored Theory U: Leading from the Future as It Emerges (2007) and Presence: An Exploration of Profound Change in People, Organizations, and Society (2005) with Peter Senge, Joseph Jaworski, and Betty Sue Flowers, and is the author of several papers and books. Scharmer graduated from Witten-Herdecke University in Germany with a master's degree and a doctorate in economics and management.
