Nicol Turner Lee, Ph.D., is a prominent American sociologist, researcher, and policy expert specializing in technology, digital equity, and social justice. She serves as a senior fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution, director of the Center for Technology Innovation (CTI), and co-editor-in-chief of the TechTank blog and podcast. Turner Lee earned her B.A. magna cum laude from Colgate University and M.A./Ph.D. in sociology from Northwestern University. Her work examines the intersection of technology and inequality, including broadband access, AI ethics, and bias mitigation. In 2023, she launched the AI Equity Lab to promote inclusive, nondiscriminatory AI globally. She is the author of “Digitally Invisible: How the Internet Is Creating the New Underclass" (2024).
