Mohamed El-Erian is an Egyptian-American economist, businessman, and global financial commentator. He is currently president of Queens’ College, Cambridge, and chief economic adviser at Allianz, the parent company of PIMCO, where he previously served as CEO and co-CIO.
Born in New York City, El-Erian spent time in Cairo, Paris, and London due to his father’s diplomatic career. El-Erian earned a B.A. in economics from Cambridge University and a Master’s and Doctorate in Philosophy in economics from Oxford University. His career spans the International Monetary Fund, where he worked on emerging markets and served as deputy director and in leadership roles at Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup and Harvard Management Company. In 2012, he was appointed Chair of President Obama's Global Development Council.
