Mikayla Holmgren competed in 2017 Miss Minnesota USA competition Holmgren and became the first woman with Down syndrome to compete in a Miss USA state beauty pageant. At the event she won the Spirit of Miss USA award as well as the Director s Award.
Previously Holmgren participated in pageants created for women and girls with disabilities winning the Miss Minnesota Amazing competition. Holmgren is also a Best Buddies ambassador. As an ambassador she has assisted Best Buddies with their expansion efforts to establish the organization s first office in the state of Minnesota.
