Meg Rithmire Biography

Meg Rithmire is the James E. Robison Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School in the Business, Government, and International Economy Unit. She holds a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University, specializing in comparative political economy with a focus on China and Asia. Her first book, “Land Bargains and Chinese Capitalism” (2015), explores land politics and property rights in China’s economic reforms. Her second book, “Precarious Ties: Business and the State in Authoritarian Asia” (2023), examines state-business relations in China, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Rithmire, a fluent Mandarin speaker, is a faculty affiliate at Harvard's Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies and advises on Asia and U.S.-China relations as a Senior Advisor at Macro Advisory Partners. Her work has appeared in The Atlantic, Foreign Affairs, and other prominent outlets.
