Raj Patel is a British-American academic, writer, and activist. He spent his early years in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States as a teenager. Patel received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University and his Master's degree and Ph.D. in Development Sociology from Cornell University.

Patel's work focuses on food, poverty, and inequality issues. He is the author of several books, including "Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System" and "The Value of Nothing: How to Reshape Market Society and Redefine Democracy." He has also written for several publications, including The Guardian, The New York Times, and The Nation.
