Mary-Claire King, Ph.D., is a geneticist from the United States. She was the first to establish that breast cancer may be passed down down the generations owing to abnormalities in the BRCA1 gene. She specializes in human genetics, with a focus on genetic heterogeneity and complex characteristics.

She investigates how genetics and environment combine to cause diseases including breast and ovarian cancer, hereditary deafness, schizophrenia, HIV, systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis in humans. Since 1995, she has served as the American Cancer Society Professor of Genome Sciences and Medical Genetics in the University of Washington's Department of Medicine.
