Search Steven Curtis Chapman's wife, Mary Beth Chapman, is a Grammy and Dove Award-winning music artist. Steven and Mary Beth have six children, including three small girls adopted from China, and have been married for 25 years. They met at college after being assigned the same mailbox due to their last names being the same. (Mary Beth was born Mary Beth Chapman.) The Chapman family had long been supportive of friends and groups interested in adoption, but they had no clue how big their participation would become. Mary Beth had never imagined herself adopting a kid, let alone one from another country. For most of the two-and-a-half-year campaign daughter Emily launched to persuade her parents to adopt a child from another country, she was the lone dissenter. Mary Beth, on the other hand, was enthusiastic about the adoption from the start. Steven and Mary Beth founded the non-profit organization Show Hope (formerly titled Shaohannah's Hope after their first adopted daughter) after being touched and profoundly changed by the miracle of adoption. The ministry is devoted to caring for the world's neglected and abandoned children by giving financial support to families who desire to adopt, as well as raising awareness and channeling resources to orphans in both the United States and abroad. She is the president, and she and Steven work together to raise adoption awareness and legislation. Following Shaohannah's adoption in 2000, the Chapmans adopted Stevey Joy in 2002 and Maria Sue in 2004. Maria was tragically murdered in May 2008 when she was hit by an SUV in Chapman's driveway. Through interviews with People Magazine, Good Morning America, and Larry King Live, the family has gone on to share their tale of great sadness and newfound hope with the rest of the world.
