Mark P. Mills Biography

Mark P. Mills is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a professor at Northwestern University's McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, where he co-directs the Manufacturing Science and Innovation Institute. He's also a strategic partner at Cottonwood Startup Partners (an energy-tech venture fund) and a member of the Reilly Center for Science, Technology, and Values advisory board. He previously co-founded Digital Power Capital, a boutique venture capital firm, and served as chairman and CTO of ICx Technologies, where he assisted in the company's IPO in 2007. Mills is a Forbes.com regular writer and co-author of The Bottomless Well: The Twilight of Fuel, the Virtue of Waste, and Why We Will Never Run Out of Energy (2005; #1 in Amazon's science and math rankings). His work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Real Clear, among other publications. Mills has been on CNN, Fox, NBC, and PBS, as well as Jon Stewart's Daily Show. The American Energy Society awarded Mills Energy Writer of the Year in 2016. Mills formerly worked for Bank of America Securities as a technology advisor and co-author of the Huber-Mills Digital Power Report, a digital investing weekly. He's testified in front of Congress and briefed state public-service commissioners and politicians. Mills worked in President Ronald Reagan's White House Scientific Office and then offered science and technology policy advice to a number of commercial companies, the Department of Energy, and US research institutes. Mills worked as an experimental physicist and development engineer on microprocessors, fiber optics, and missile guidance at Bell Northern Research (Canada's Bell Labs) and the RCA David Sarnoff Research Center early in his career, receiving numerous patents for his efforts. He graduated from Queen's University in Ontario, Canada, with a physics degree.
