Pearson PLC's previous CEO, Marjorie Scardino, DBE, FRSA When she was named CEO of Pearson in 1997, she became the first female CEO of an FTSE 100 firm. She is also the former CEO of the Economist Group and a non-executive director of Nokia. She quadrupled Pearson's earnings to a record £942 million during her tenure there.
After a debate about the lack of diversity on the Twitter board, she became the company's first female director in December 2013. She worked with her husband Albert Scardino, subsequently a media writer for The New York Times, as editor of the Pulitzer Prize-winning daily The Georgia Gazette before 1985.
