Lakey Peterson is a world-class female surfer noted for her innovative aerial techniques, athletic prowess, and rapid ascent through the ranks. Peterson was dubbed Lakey Surf Legend at the age of five and is the daughter of a national swimming champion, so it's no wonder that she was surfing competitively by the age of eleven. Peterson began winning NSSA championships at the age of 12 and won the NSSA Open Women's Title at the age of 14 by doing the first-ever female aerial move in competition. In 2010, she successfully defended her title and was awarded the WSL North American Regional Champion for the women's and junior women's divisions for the 2010-11 season. Peterson competed as a wild card entry in the 2011 U.S. Open Of Surfing - a Women's World Tour event - and finished runner-up in the world's largest surf competition. She won every event in the North American Junior Pro series in 2011, earning her a spot on the official WSL Women's Championship Tour. She won the coveted 2012 U.S. Open of Surfing in her Rookie Year on Tour. Peterson has continuously proven herself a force to be reckoned with excellent performances during 2013 and 2014. The World Surf League, the top professional level of women's surfing, has placed her as high as #1 and the ASP Women's World Rank as high as #6. Her passions aren't limited to surfing. She is a multi-sport athlete and a philanthropist who is involved with a number of non-profits that benefit mankind and the environment. She has helped H4O (Hands4Others) obtain funding and construct clean water systems in third-world nations. She is a member of the Ocean Lovers Collective Advisory Board and a spokesman for the SCA (Student Conservation Association), the nation's biggest volunteer group for high school and college students dedicated to preserving our national parks and trails. Peterson is also dedicated to generating funds and awareness for children's cancer research and is affiliated with many children's hospitals in Southern California. In her hometown of Santa Barbara, California, she also hosts a yearly surf tournament for young children. She wanted to provide children the opportunity to see the water at an early age and spend a wonderful day at the beach with their families and friends. Nearly 250 children attended the program last year, with the objective of increasing attendance each year. Peterson was featured in the Nike 6.0 women's surf film Leave A Message, and her first feature-length film, Zero to 100, was released in early 2013, chronicling her career and personal journey. Zero to 100 received critical praise and won accolades at festivals all around the world, and it debuted at number one on iTunes Sports. Peterson is also a frequent guest speaker at sports and motivational events around the country.
