Ken Wregget was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the third round, 45th overall, in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. Wregget had two outstanding seasons with the Western Junior Hockey League's Lethbridge Broncos. In fact, Wregget was the starting goaltender, with Ron Hextall serving as his backup.
Wregget got his start in the NHL by appearing in three games in 1983-84, winning one, losing one, and tying one while posting a 5.09 goals against average. Wregget played 23 games in Toronto in 1984-85 and 30 the following year.
