Jonathan Kanter is an antitrust lawyer who served as Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice from November 2021 to December 2024 under President Biden. He was the administration's top antitrust enforcer and a key figure in the "New Brandeis" movement, advocating aggressive action against corporate monopolies, particularly Big Tech.
During his tenure, Kanter led landmark cases against Google and Apple, as well as probes into healthcare, housing, media, labor, and defense, prioritizing competition, innovation, and consumer/worker protection. Previously, he worked at the FTC, co-chaired the antitrust division, and founded his own firm focused on enforcement.
