John Putnam Demos is an American creator and student of history. He has composed two books that examine witch-chases and has found that one of his own predecessors was John Putnam Senior precursor of the Putnam family which was noticeable in the Salem witch preliminaries. Demos was granted the renowned Bancroft Prize for his book ""Engaging Satan"".
He was granted the 1995 Francis Parkman Prize for his book ""The Unredeemed Captive: A Family Story From Early America"". Alongside is grants he was selected as a writer for the National Book Award for Nonfiction National Book Award for History and National Book Critics Circle Award for General Nonfiction.
