Entrepreneur and creative fragrance icon In both business and branding, Jo Malone has mastered the art of following her finely tuned nose. Amidst being severely dyslexic and dropping out of school at the age of 15, Jo's ferocious creativity remained unabated. She began mixing bath oils in her kitchen while working as a beauty therapist in her London flat, and her hand-made products quickly gained popularity among her clients. Jo continued to cultivate and hone her brand, starting with plastic jugs and saucepans and eventually opening her first store in London in 1994. Four years later, her fragrant formulations were on the coveted shelves of New York's Bergdorf Goodman department store. Jo sold her company to cosmetics behemoth Estée Lauder in 1999, where she remained as Creative Director until 2006. It was official: Jo's small shop in Knightsbridge had grown into an empire, and two years later she was awarded an MBE for her services to the beauty industry. Jo has shared her experiences in magazines, radio, and on television shows such as BBC One's The Apprentice - You're Hired, BBC Two's Working Lunch, ITV1's Loose Women, as well as Lorraine. She created and hosted the four-part television series High Street Dreams. which aimed to assist small businesses in realising their dreams of trading on the Great British high street and resulted in the creation of six new British brands.
