Jerry Lynn Ross is a native of Indiana, a Purdue University alumnus, a retired US Air Force officer, and a former NASA astronaut who retired in 2012. He has flown on seven Space Shuttle missions for the United States and holds the world record for the most spaceflights flown by a person.
Ross shares the record for the most launches into orbit with NASA Astronaut Franklin Chang-Diaz: seven. He is one of just three NASA astronauts that has been a part of the US Space Shuttle program from the beginning to the end. Ross was a key supporter of the International Space Station program from its inception until its completion and launch.
