In the Seinfeld episode The Pilot, he played George Costanza in a show-within-a-show scenario. Piven was a supporting cast member on the comedy Ellen for the last three seasons, playing Ellen's cousin, Spence. He also played Elongated Man in three episodes of Justice League Unlimited and was the lead and creator of the short-lived ABC dramedy Cupid.
Piven rose to prominence in the HBO series Entourage, where he played fast-talking, caustic Hollywood agent Ari Gold, beginning in 2004. From 2005 through 2008, he got four Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor, winning the award in 2006, 2007, and 2008. 2009 was the first year he did not get an Emmy nomination for his performance on the program.
