Janet Langhart's formal name is Janet Langhart. Cohen, the head of Langhart Communications, is an Emmy-nominated journalist who started her career on CBS in Chicago. Cohen has been on ABC, CBS, NBC, and BET throughout the course of her 25-year career; she presented ABC's Good Day in Boston; she covered special assignments for Entertainment Tonight; and she produced many shows, including On Capitol Hill with Janet Langhart. As an international reporter, she reported from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Cohen interviewed several significant newsmakers and leaders of the twentieth century throughout her career. President Bill Clinton (who acknowledged her work in his last State of the Union address), President Jimmy Carter, Margaret Thatcher, Rosa Parks, General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr., Mel Gibson, Bill Cosby, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denzel Washington, Dan Rather, and Larry King are among those she interviewed. Cohen has previously worked as a columnist for The Boston Herald, U.S. News & World Report, and as an Avon Cosmetics spokesman. She has served as a judge for the White House Fellows Program and as a Miss America pageant judge. Cohen is the wife of former Defense Secretary William S. Cohen. She was dubbed "First Lady of the Pentagon" because of her active and conspicuous public involvement during her husband's presidency. She was the driving force behind numerous programs aimed at improving the quality of life for Defense Department military and civilian personnel, including as the Military Family Forum, the Pentagon Pops performance series, and the Secretary of Defense Annual Holiday Tour (an entertainment revue). From 1997 to 2001, Cohen also produced and presented Special Assignment, a weekly television program that aired internationally on the Armed Forces Network. In 2004, she published her first book, a memoir titled From Rage to Reason: My Life in Two Americas. Love in Black and White, A Memoir about Race, Religion, and Romance, a memoir about the ties Langhart and Cohen share due to similar life situations and origins, was co-written by her and her husband in 2007. Cohen has most recently created a one-act playAnne and Emmettan imaginary discussion between Nazi child victim Anne Frank and Jim Crow southern United States child victim Emmett Till. She is also actively interested in providing higher education to poor youngsters.
