I've always enjoyed writing stories and poems. In fact, my first novel was written when I was in elementary school. It was called The Sad Shape, and it was about a circle that wished to have legs. That book is still in my possession!
I carry it with me on school visits to demonstrate that all writers come from poor origins. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and by the age of eleven, I had lived in five states. Because I moved so often, I became a study of human nature. When you're the new kid in town, you have to pay close attention.
