I've always enjoyed writing stories and poems. In fact, my first novel was written when I was in elementary school. It was called The Sad Shape, and it was about a circle that wished to have legs. That book is still in my possession! I carry it with me on school visits to demonstrate that all writers come from poor origins. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and by the age of eleven, I had lived in five states. Because I moved so often, I became a study of human nature. When you're the new kid in town, you have to pay close attention. People-watching is still one of my favorite pastimes. I never get tired of seeing folks pass by and wondering, "I wonder what the story behind that person is?" I now live in a tiny town approximately a dozen miles outside of Boston, Massachusetts. I have three children and one dog, and they're all wonderful. When I'm not busy with my kids or writing, I like reading, going to the movies, watching the Celtics and Patriots, traveling, and hanging out with my friends. But sometimes I just sit on my front steps and watch the world go by.
