Her view of race in America was shaped by her experiences in high school and middle school in Texas. She is a former Chicago Police officer who is now a lawyer and professor of sociology and criminal justice at Saint Xavier University. She has a Ph.D. from Northwestern University and has been involved in anti-racist education since the mid-1990s.
