Feryal Salem is an assistant professor of Islamic scriptures and law co-director of the Islamic Chaplaincy Program and director of the Imam and Muslim Community leadership certificate program at Hartford Seminary.Her research interests include early Islamic thought with an emphasis on the foundations of Islamic scripture hadith methodology and hermeneutics in classical Islamic texts.Salem is the author of The Emergence of Early Sufi Piety and Sunnī Scholasticism: ʿAbdallāh b.
al-Mubārak and the Formation of Sunni Identity in the Second Islamic Century (2016).She has been actively working within the Muslim American community to establish the Nur Foundation for Sacred Sciences which focuses on providing opportunities for education in the Islamic sciences for Muslims living in the West.Salem received her Ph.D.
