Donovan Frankenreiter Biography

Donavon Frankenreiter is an American musician and surfer who was born on December 10, 1972, in Downey, California. At the age of 18, Frankenreiter joined the band Peanut Butter and Jam. When he established the band Sunchild in 1996, he began to really pursue a musical career. Frankenreiter played lead guitar in Sunchild but did not sing. The band's sound was comparable to The Black Crowes' in the 1970s. Surfdog Records published their debut album, "Barefoot & Live," in 1997. The live CD, which was produced by Gary Hoey, included covers of The Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Rolling Stones, and Van Morrison, as well as a few originals. In 2000, they released “California Honey” on their own Sunchild Records. Sunchild split up in 2001, and Frankenreiter embarked on a solo career. Frankenreiter has been friends with Jack Johnson for a long time, and in 2002 he signed with Johnson's Brushfire Records. Donavon Frankenreiter, his self-titled solo album, was recorded with co-producers Johnson and Mario Caldato Jr. and published in 2004. Johnson, as well as G. Love and Eels member Koool G. Murder, feature on the album. On the Billboard 200 Albums list, it reached #165. In 2006, Frankenreiter parted ways with Brushfire Records and signed with Lost Highway Records, home of Elvis Costello, Ryan Adams, and Willie Nelson, among others. In June 2006, he released his next album, Move by Yourself. On the Billboard 200, the album reached #105. In 2007, he released Recycled Recipes, an EP of cover songs by various artists such as Wilco, Dr. John, Bob Dylan, The Band, Bruce Cockburn, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. In 2008, Pass It Around was released and charted at #98 on the Billboard 200. He released the full-length Revisited in 2009 and the LP "Glow" in 2010. The album "Glow" debuted at #38 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums list and #6 on the Folk Albums chart.
