Dillon is the Cincinnati-based Kroger Co.'s chairman of the board and CEO. In 1976, he joined the Dillon Companies in Hutchinson, working for the King Soopers branch in Denver, after graduating from Southern Methodist University with a law degree.

He held different roles within the firms until returning to Hutchinson in 1983 and became vice president of Dillon Companies in 1986. In 1990, he was appointed executive vice president of The Kroger Company, and in 1995, he was made president and chief operating officer. In July, he succeeded Joseph A.

Pichler, assoc., former KU dean of business, as chairman and CEO. Dillon is a trustee and former chair of the Greater University Fund Advisory Board for the KU Endowment Association, which he served on from 1984 to 1989. He was a Special Gift donor and served on the Campaign Kansas National Council and Steering Committee from 1988 to 1992.

Dillon is presently a member of the Board of Advisors at the School of Business.
