Claudia Lee Mirkowski was born in Lafayette, Indiana, to a Polish immigrant father and an American mother. Her parents enrolled her in dance courses when she was three years old, and she learned ballet, jazz, and tap-dancing for ten years.
It's a talent that would eventually come in handy in a Zeke and Luther episode in which her character participates in a high school play. Michael Rooney, son of actor Mickey Rooney, coordinated the dance in the episode. Lee, who had always been interested in music, began taking piano lessons when she was ten years old.
