She is a nationally recognized author, writer, columnist, media critic, and Boston University journalism professor who has spent four decades reporting on and commenting on American life and politics. She began her career as a Washington newspaper correspondent, covering the civil rights movement and the Kennedy presidency. Later, she wrote for US newspapers and magazines about the Vietnam debate, the women's movement, the growth of the political right, the struggles over political correctness, and the differences over race, class, and gender that have frequently convulsed the nation. Professor Rivers and Dr. Barnett have co-authored a series of award-winning works on the behavioral sciences that dispel misconceptions about women, men, and society. Her best-selling novels, which have been published all over the world, are inspired by her experiences as a journalist. Diversion Press has recently released them online.
