Calum Worthy is a Canadian actor, writer, and producer who is best known for playing Dez on the Disney Channel comedy Austin & Ally. The Act, a true-crime anthology series on Hulu, featured Worthy. He's also appeared in over 70 films and television shows, including Netflix's American Vandal, Eminem's combat rap film Bodied, Ed Helms' 2019 Sundance film Corporate Animals, Legendary Studios' The Thinning, Smallville, and Supernatural, and Ed Helms' 2019 Sundance film Corporate Animals. Worthy is one of Al Gore's Youth Ambassadors for his organization "The Climate Reality Project," and for the past four years has co-hosted 24 Hours of Reality with Gore, staying up for 24 hours straight spotlighting the top 24 carbon generating countries. In 2015, two weeks before the Paris Climate Agreement was signed, he co-hosted for the first time in Paris. They were four hours into the broadcast when they received word of a terrorist attack and had to halt the presentation. In 2016, 2017, and 2018, Worthy and Gore continued to co-host the 24 Hours of Reality programs. Ryan Reynolds, Shailene Woodley, Bill Nye, Jason Mraz, Edward Norton, Jonathan Scott, Zachary Quinto, and One Republic were among the other co-hosts. Each broadcast attracted a global audience of more than 20 million people. Worthy has also attended the Climate Reality Training Program in Iowa, where he learned about climate change research from some of the world's best scientists, including several of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winners. Worthy spearheaded the March For Science in Washington, DC, alongside Al Gore and Richard Branson. He talked to the young contingent about how they can successfully persuade their local governments to take action on climate change, even if the federal government refuses to listen. Worthy talked to the owners and coaches of NHL, NBA, NFL, and MLB clubs on how they can utilize their platforms to educate their young fans about the climate problem as a keynote speaker at the Green Sports Alliance. He also works with ONE, Bono's non-profit advocacy group that raises public awareness and pressures government leaders to support legislation and pioneering initiatives in Africa to combat severe poverty and avoidable disease. 130 million girls do not attend school today, 1 billion women do not have access to a bank account, and 800,000 women will contract HIV. Worthy flew to East Africa with ONE in 2018 to study gender equality and women's economic empowerment, witnessing firsthand the significant difference that foreign aid can have when it focuses on women and girls' empowerment. Worthy has been an outspoken campaigner since high school when he founded a group to gather funds for solar panels to be installed on his school's roof. He understands what it takes to be a young activist, and he utilizes his platform to urge other young people to join him in the battle to address the generation's most pressing issues.
