Beth Akers is a Brown Center on Education Policy fellow at the Brookings Institution. She is a specialist in educational economics, with a specialization in higher education financing policy. Her prior research looked at the effects of student loan debt on the job market and attempted to better understand the costs of federal student lending.
She formerly worked for the President's Council of Economic Advisors as a staff economist, where she focused on federal student lending policies as well as other education and labor problems. She graduated from SUNY Albany with a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics and a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University.
