Alaina Roberts is an award-winning historian and Associate Professor of History at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in the intersection of Black and Native American lives from the Civil War to the present. She earned her doctorate from Indiana University and became the youngest African American woman on record to receive a Ph.D. there, and a B.A.

in History with honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her groundbreaking research explores slavery among the Five Tribes, cycles of dispossession in Indian Territory, and Black freedom on Native land, drawing from family history and archives.
